Final Result

The final result was: 1.7% of the primary vote - after the Libs and the Greens, and following the Sex Party, DLP and the Dems.

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported the campaign!

Very best wishes,
Stephen Murphy

Please feel free to come along and meet the ETS bull.

All welcome - please spread the word. There will be signs, banners and placards provided, or you can make your own :)

Hope to see you there! The email addresses for Stephen and Chris are at bottom of page.

Vote Against the ETS

Not happy with the ETS? A vote for Stephen Murphy is a vote against the ETS.

The emissions trading scheme:
- won't change the climate
- will cost Australian jobs
- is up to $4500 per year in new taxes

I will oppose the emissions trading scheme and take this message to Canberra for you.

What We Do in Life

Stephen sent out a press release tonight to Australian Senators.

He writes:

Just as Australia is on the verge of signing into law a crippling new tax that will hurt our economy, destroy jobs and reduce our quality of life, shockwaves from the scandal known as 'climategate' are reverberating around the world.

It's time to stand up to the great global warming fear campaign in Australia and delay the ETS for a proper investigation into the work of the scientists who have mislead us.

Bill Koutalianos (Bradfield) on TV

Today Tonight reports from Sydney, where Bill Koutalianos and the NSW climate sceptics get their message out.

Well done, Bill - and good luck in the Bradfield by-election.

Public Opinion Swaying

In an amazing broadcast from the mainstream media tonight, TV program A current Affair exposed what everyday people think of the climate con.

Public opinion is swaying, but is it too late to stop the CPRS ?

I'm The Leader

Turnbull apparently survives a leadership spill 48-35.

The Liberals will most likely commit Australia to an expensive and unnecessary ETS tomorrow.

Osmotic Powered Coffee Machine

Reuters reports that Norway has built an osmotic power planet.

It will generate a whopping 2 kilowatts of power - about enough to power a coffee machine.

Norway has massive reserves in the North Sea, is the world's second largest energy exporter and already generates large amounts of carbon-free 'white' energy via extensive hydro schemes.

Hundreds of millions were undoubtedly sunk into the osmotic coffee machine project.

Is this an indication of the same 'low-carbon' future we are headed for in Australia?

It's the Vibe of the Thing

Reported tonight: Malcolm Turnbull decides his position on the ETS by the vibe of the party room - rather than taking a vote.

So much for democratic party room processes on important issues. This could be the ticket to another 8 years in the electoral wilderness for the Libs.

Malvern Town Hall Tuesday 1pm

Meet us at the Malvern Town Hall on Tuesday 23rd November at 1pm to see why the ETS is Bull and how we have been mislead on climate change!

Address: corner Glenferrie Rd and High St, Malvern.

See you there.

We Need You!

Are you able to offer half a day to man one of the 37 polling booths in the Higgins electorate on December 5th and hand out how-to-vote cards?

If so, please get in touch! We need a super turnout on voting day in order to send a loud and clear message to Canberra.

P.S. if you coach a soccer team - even better.

Triple J Interview

Stephen sat down with Irene Scott today in the Triple J studio and talked about the climate fraud controversy.

Article: Extreme Green

Stephen writes on ABC Unleashed:

Do we run the risk of creating an investment bubble in renewable energy? What happens to our superannuation savings, already battered by the global financial crisis, if this green investment bubble bursts and these investments are devalued?

And you can listen to Stephen on Triple J at 5.30pm on Monday 23rd November.

The Day Global Warming Stood Still

The Climate Sceptics call for an immediate Royal Commission into Climate Fraud.

Stephen Murphy sent out a press release today, calling for a delay of the emissions trading scheme (ETS) for a Royal Commission into Climate Fraud.

Amongst other things, researchers at UK-based University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) are suspected of manipulation of temperature data in order to create scary global warming scenarios.

He writes:
The board of ENRON perpetrated accounting fraud yet there are no checks and balances or independent auditing to prevent scientific fraud.

Stephen suggests that our Prime Minister should demand an answer from the UK Ambassador: what the hell is going on?

Taking our Message to the Streets

Hello Everyone,

This weekened we started taking our message onto the streets of Melbourne.

With great pleasure, I would like to introduce the ETS bull:

If he looks angry, it's due to our Prime Minister's position on emissions trading.

He is 100% mobile and can be expanded in about 60 seconds.

Look for him over the next week - from Toorak to Glen Iris and everywhere in between!

Climate Research Unit Exposed

The UK-based Climate Research Unit (CRU) is one of the world authorities on climate change data.

Here is their latest graph of world temperatures. Note the significant warming trend, which is in contrast to other climate centers who have observed cooling since 2001:

Now apparently, a hacker has broken into their computer system and published emails and other documents on the internet.

We do not know if this is real or a hoax. It does, however, possibly look real.

Here's an excerpt of one of the emails, attributed to a leading climate researcher at University of East Anglia's CRU in the UK:

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps
to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.

If this is real, then this deserves to be front page news in every country.

Interview on ABC Radio

I was able to talk with Celine Foenander on ABC Radio Gippsland this morning.

You can listen to or download the interview here: climate change is a hot topic.

We will be campaigning in Higgins on the weekend! Look out for us :)

If you'd like to be a part of campaigning - please get in touch (email address details can be found at the very bottom of the page).

Climate Meeting

Last night I attended a climate change meeting at Glen Iris Uniting Church.

Thanks to the organizers and the Youth Decide group for running the evening. We had a good chance to discuss the science, to varying degrees of rationality.

A young member of the Youth Decide group, who had recently completed year 12 chemistry and is now studying first year Engineering, admitted that carbon dioxide is what makes plants grow.

Yet no-one wanted to discuss if increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide would make plants grow better!

Similarly, no-one knew that global warming stopped around 2001. In fact, many people fiercely disagreed. Here's the data:

UAH = University of Alabama, Huntsville satellite data
Note the downward trend (blue line).

So much for informed and objective debate.

Not Happy, Clive!

Stephen responds to Clime Hamilton's assult on sanity from earlier in the week.

In usual circumstances, you know that your opponent has lost the debate if they either start playing the man or invoke Godwin's Law. A complete lack of substantive argument can be assured if they do both...

I am keen to engage in a rational debate on climate change, however I judge the chances of my opponents doing the same as quite slim.

If you would like to participate in or support my Higgins by-election campaign, please get in touch.

Have the Greens Gone Mad ?

In an amazing article, Greens candidate Clive Hamilton writes:

So the answer to the question of whether climate denialism is morally worse than Holocaust denialism is no, at least, not yet.

It defies logic how this was not be judged to be extremely offensive to many people before publication.

So much for rational debate.

Copenhagen Set to Fail

An article from The Age reports that the Copenhagen Treaty (including all binding agreements) has effectively been ditched.

A senior US official quoted by news agencies said the leaders had agreed it was unrealistic to expect a legal agreement to be reached in only 22 days given the state of negotiations.

As recently as last week, World leaders were talking about the need to "act now" and that this was the "last chance" for the planet.

Perhaps they have realized that the voting public won't accept new planet-saving taxes that aren't supported by solid scientific evidence.

Higgins By-Election

If you have just clicked onto my blog (perhaps you received a leaflet in your letterbox over the weekend), thank you for dropping by.

I believe that climate change is predominantly natural, that we have been mislead by many politicians and some scientists, and that human carbon emissions are not causing catastrophic global warming.

If you believe, as I do, that the emissions trading scheme is just another new tax that won't deliver any benefit to the environment, by voting [1] Stephen Murphy you can make your voice heard in Canberra.

I will be campaigning throughout Higgins over the next 3 weeks and I look forward to meeting you.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to participate in my campaign.

Superb Ballot Draw

Here are the results of the Higgins ballot draw:

1 MURPHY Stephen (IND)
2 PATTEN Fiona (ASXP)
3 O'DWYER Kelly (LP)
4 ROBERTS Isaac (LDP)
5 HAMILTON Clive (GRN)
6 COLLYER David (DEM)

8 RASKOVY Steve (HAN)
9 BROHIER Peter (IND)
10 MULHOLLAND John (DLP)

Stephen's campaign manager Chris Dawson says:

A superb result! And it's perhaps no coincidence that the number 1 candidate on the ballot paper will be tackling the number 1 issue facing Australia today - Kevin Rudd's ridiculous emissions trading scheme.

Scepticism is Growing

The Minister for Climate Change was asked some tough questions on 4BC recently - worth a listen.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Signing Away our Freedoms in Copenhagen

Stephen Murphy writes:

As Kevin Rudd prepares to fly to Denmark for a fifty billion dollar photo opportunity, we might ask: What exactly are we signing up to and how much of our freedom, wealth and sovereignty does he plan to sign away in Copenhagen?

We have a right to demand answers from our Prime Minister who, as an appointed "friend of the chairman" and publicity aficionado, seems guaranteed to sign it.

Nomination Accepted

Stephen Murphy's nomination for the Higgins by-election has been accepted by the AEC returning officer.

All systems are go!

Climate Sceptics Respond

Stephen Murphy responds to Rudd's declaration of war on climate sceptics.

Kevin Rudd has launched an extraordinary attack on the growing number of informed Australians who disagree with his views on climate change. To accuse them of being willing to watch their grandchildren suffer from catastrophic global warming is not only insulting, slanderous and incorrect, it is downright loopy. The Prime Minister appears to have reached his own ‘tipping point’.

We issue the following challenge:

The climate sceptics respond: We challenge the Prime Minister to present to parliament verifiable, empirical evidence which proves the theory that human carbon dioxide emissions are causing dangerous global warming and that global temperature changes in the 20th century were not simply a result of natural climate change.

And we make this demand:

Stephen Murphy, candidate for Higgins and climate sceptic, demands that Kevin Rudd table the draft UN climate agreement in parliament and come clean out the costs of emissions trading and how much of our freedom, wealth and sovereignty he plans to sign away in Copenhagen.

Campaigning in Malvern

This weekend the team was campaigning in Malvern.

I had a very interesting discussion with a retired academic who knows a thing or two astrophysics and speaks ancient Greek.

We discussed the ridiculous nature of Kevin Rudd's emissions trading scheme and found a lot of common ground.

Rudd's War on Climate Sceptics

Today at the Lowy Institute, Kevin Rudd announced, in relation to climate sceptics who oppose his ridiculous carbon "pollution" reduction scheme:

And our children's fate - our grandchildren's fate - will lie entirely with them. It is time to remove any polite veneer from this debate; the stakes are that high.

followed by, in truly Gore-esque fashion:

The clock is ticking for the planet...

Join the Campaign!

Are you able to offer some of your time to join Stephen Murphy's campaign for accurate science in the Higgins by-election ?

We have a small campaign team who will be assisting with various activities (both online and on-the-ground) throughout November and on election day (December 5).

If you are interested to join the team and help out in whatever way you can, please get in touch.

Copenhagen Treaty

What exactly will we be signing up to in Copenhagen ?

What exactly will be the costs and obligations under the treaty ?

What exactly will be the powers granted to the treaty organization and how will this impact Australian sovereignty and freedoms ?

If you know the answers to these questions, please post them here.

Press Release

Climate Sceptics president Leon Ashby has announced Stephen Murphy will run as an Independent Climate Sceptic in the Higgins by-election on a platform of opposing the emissions trading scheme.

Mr Ashby says:

We want the public to have a choice of candidate who understands there is no credible scientific evidence to support the claim that human carbon dioxide emissions cause significant global warming and that an emissions trading scheme will be costly and unnecessary.

He added:

Voters can be assured that if they want to protest against the position of the major parties on the ETS, Stephen Murphy will be the person to vote for.

Mr Ashby also announced Stephen Murphy's campaign manager will be Nunawading businessman Chris Dawson who specializes in water purification and recovery.

The contact details for Stephen and Chris can be found at the bottom of the page.

Higgins Nomination

Welcome to Stephen Murphy's blog.

I am standing as a candidate in the Higgins election and will oppose emissions trading and carbon taxes in Australia.

If you are able to assist with my campaign or would like to make a donation, please send me an email or use the button on the right.

The Majority Disagree

Today began well with brunch at Giorgiou's and I spent the afternoon chatting with residents in the Malvern area.

I raised the topic of emissions trading with many of you and listened to your opinions. I found that a solid majority of people disagree with emissions trading scheme in it's present form.

To those I spoke to today - thank you for your time.

The Environment

We all care a great deal about our natural envionment and it's obviously extremely important that we take action to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.

The planned Australian emissions trading scheme, however, will not deliver any noticeable benefit to the environment whatsoever.

This is a great pity because other, real environmental issues in Australia will not get the focus they perhaps deserve!

The Climate Sceptics

Though I am participating in the Higgins by-election as an independent candidate, I am also a member of The Climate Sceptics.

From their web site:

We are ordinary but proud Australians who are gravely concerned with the unfounded environmental alarmism infiltrating all forms of Australian Government (Federal, State & Local), threatening our way of life and hard fought freedoms.

The Climate Sceptics have done an excellent job compiling a large amount of scientific information on natural climate change - it's well worth browsing through their web site and registering to receive their email newsletter.
